چکیده
Figure 1. Sural nerve grafts following end-to-end neurorrhaphies to the frontal (F), zygomatic (Z), buccal (B), marginal mandibular (M), cervical (C) branches, and the facial nerve trunk (FN). DESCRIPTION A 45-year-old man with a deep lesion to the parotid (shown to be a basal cell carcinoma on biopsy) underwent a radical parotidectomy following discussions in a multidisciplinary meeting. During the extirpation surgery, portions of the facial nerve were sacrificed following examination under frozen section.

Rehabilitation of a parotidectomy patient--a systematic approach.
Parotidectomy is a common surgical procedure. Resultant contour defect, Frey's syndrome, and facial nerve rehabilitation deserve special consideration. Microsurgical techniques provide unparallel advantage for reconstruction of large-volume defects. Same-stage reconstruction of the defect is advocated and often beneficial to the patient. The importance of full communication between the extirpat...

The course of acinic cell carcinoma of the parotid gland following surgical and nonsurgical interventions is variable. The objective of this study was to report our experience in treating this disease and to evaluate the factors that might be involved in the treatment of the tumor and the prognosis of the patient. To limit the contributory variables that are usually found in most studies, we in...
متن کاملFacial Nerve Reconstruction With Concurrent Masseteric Nerve Transfer and Cable Grafting.
IMPORTANCE Reconstruction of the facial nerve after radical parotidectomy is commonly performed with cable grafting, which is associated with slow recovery of nerve function and synkinesis. OBJECTIVE To describe facial nerve reconstruction after radical parotidectomy using concurrent masseteric nerve transfer and cable grafting. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS This retrospective medical r...

Introduction: Malignant tumors of the parotid gland account scarcely for 5% of all head and neck tumors. Most of these neoplasms have a high tendency for recurrence, local infiltration, perineural extension, and metastasis. Although uncommon, these malignant tumors require complex surgical treatment sometimes involving a total parotidectomy including a complete facial nerve resection. Severe fu...
